A Pilfered Morsel Of Bread

A Pilfered Morsel Of Bread

In the dark reaches of the alley

Grey shadows mushroom… pilgarlic dread

A young girl we’ll call Sally

Crouches….hoarding…a pilfered morsel of bread

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

The night…Aphotic..with ghostly terrors

Envelopes around Sally’s huddled form

Besieged…by hungers ceaseless stirrers

A funeral corrosion…to long…her daily norm

While

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

The nearby felonious pack forages

The green regurle festering in Sally’s personal dumpster

A gangly, flea bitten mob, of rats amidst the garbage

Sniveling, scratching and tearing for what might be found there

While their

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

The picking scarce they scatter

To form a battlement around the homeless child

Who holding dear the slump of moldering embiter

Shivered in the wake of this onslaught of recreant reviled

While their ceaseless

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

She cried out to her mother

Who’d sold Sally to a long parade of uncles

Her calls pathetic and pleading for an answer

Lost in a universe of unanswered satanic circles

While their ceaseless clatter

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

Sally rocked her thin skeleton with bankruptcy

Mourning the views seen through other peoples windows

Families living and breathing loves rhapsody

Taunting her starving breath with mocking shadows

While their ceaseless clatter ..rats

Titer, rat, tat, pat…small feet scuttling

Rattle and harass her senses

Grey shadows mushroom over what was Sally’s bed

And a gangly, flea bitten mob, of rats sniff round

A angels hand clutching a pilfered morsel of bread

Drawn on the alley’s cold damp ground
